At a Glance:
Isanborei, Cambodia, is a rural community located on the main road between the country’s two largest cities: Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Isanborei is the site of some amazing pre-Angkorian archeological treasures. Despite the development of tourism in the area, many villagers still have a very low standard of living without many opportunities to improve things for themselves.
KHIRI CAMPUS works directly with the Isanborei Community and this program invites students to take part in basic home building construction activities (involving sawing, measuring, hammering and labouring). This community service project facilitates genuine sharing and interaction between students, local villagers and host families (even if the communication is mainly nonverbal!)
