Our Health and Social Care programs enable students to observe and participate in medical practices under supervision of faculty and local healthcare professionals.
Working closely with our host communities and university faculty, we develop educational travel programs for students studying:
- Oral health and dentistry
- Primary healthcare, nursing, paramedicine and midwifery
- Public health
- Physical therapy, occupational therapy and rehabilitation
- Speech and language therapy
- Biomedical sciences
Experiences in limited-resource environments help highlight the creative solutions that local practitioners must come up with to address challenges in local healthcare systems. This allows for a more educated idea about some of the health inequalities that exist around the world, whilst highlighting the importance of innovation in finding local creative solutions to local problems. Students can also expect to improve communication skills, which is critical for a career in health and social care.
Great trek. Great guides. A reasonable challenge for the fitter students yet not too difficult for the less active students. Some did find it very hard but pushed through to complete it which, even if they don’t see it immediately, this will be a great lesson in perseverance for them and patience for me.
Taksim ensured safety at all times and was professional and sensitive to the needed of each team member. He displayed genuine care and a desire to make sure that everyone enjoyed the trek. His knowledge of local flora and cultural diversity along the trek route was informative and gave the experience authenticity. I would highly recommend Taksim and his team. They were all dedicated, enthusiastic and supportive to everyone.
“We were privileged to walk on that ground, touch those children and become friends with [KHIRI CAMPUS Cambodia’s] Linda and our interpreters. It was starting to feel like family. Now that is one big reason for all of us to chase a dream and stand in someone else’s shoes. It changes you – for the better.”
“So grateful for this crazy experience in Cambodia. I would have never thought that I would have ended up here, I now feel like a local and am so grateful for all the incredibly sweet Cambodian people that I have been able to get to know. Thank you to [KHIRI CAMPUS Cambodia’s] Linda Oum for all your help whilst we have been here, you are amazing!!!”
“As our in-country partner, [KHIRI CAMPUS Thailand’s Community Coordinator] Wan was invaluable. She met us on the day we arrived in Bangkok and she was able to give us some great advice right from the start. She was also available to answer our questions throughout our time in Thailand.”
