At a Glance:

This program will allow students to discover the current environmental conditions in Bali. They will inspect the damage, and gain an understanding of the challenges to conservation and preservation. This program covers a variety of landscapes – from coastal areas and marine habitats, to mountainous areas – as well as other environmental issues like plastic problems and wildlife conservation.

Students will identify various environmental issues caused by natural events, such as volcanoes or tidal waves, and will also see the impact of issues caused by human activities (irresponsible tourism or low environmental awareness). In every activity students have the opportunity to interact with the local community and therefore understand environmental issues not only from the scientific point of view, but also from social and cultural perspectives.

Learning Outcomes :

Gain an understanding of environmental conditions and challenges in Indonesia and the impact of mass tourism on the environment in Bali
Learn about wildlife habitat and its challenges through mangrove planting activity
Learn about plastic waste in Bali and join hands-on activity on solving plastic problems
Visit eco and social-friendly social enterprises in Bali
Visit the slope of an active volcano and learn about its unique soil characteristic
Visit fisherfolk community and learn their challenges and eco-friendly initiative
Undergo beach clean-up by collecting marine debris within the intertidal zone and identify the waste washed ashore
Learn traditional Balinese agricultural methods, as well as the modern approach to understand local attitudes towards preserving the environment
