At a Glance:
Welcome to West Bali, a region in Bali that, until recently, has remained relatively unspoiled by human activity. This area retains vast areas of wilderness that support an incredible level of biodiversity, including mangrove forest in its coastal ecosystems.
Students will explore and experience the connection between the negative effects of consumer waste, mainly plastics, irresponsible tourist behavior and the coastal marine environment of West Bali. Through immersion into the lives of the local people, students will learn how the Balinese people relate to their environment and understand the value of nature in Balinese culture. Within this context, there will be challenges that will allow students to discern their ability to cope and grow in an environment very different from their modern lifestyles back home.
