Conduct full health assessments for clients in rural Cambodia

This healthcare placement enables nursing faculty student groups to work alongside local medical staff, to provide free health assessments and health education workshops to rural communities in Cambodia. The trip is a unique opportunity to learn how to provide health care with limited resources, and across cultural and linguistic barriers.
Prevalent health problems amongst children in the area include infected wounds, diarrhea, tapeworm, salmonella, malnutrition, respiratory disorders and dengue fever. As part of this program, students will have a chance to assist up to 100+ people a day, many of whom will have symptoms of these conditions. Activities include reception and triage, weight and measurements, assessments and treatments, data recordings, dispensary, and crowd control.

This project takes place in rural Cambodia, in areas with limited resources and access to medical care. Students will work with local doctors, nurses and other health professionals to provide much needed free health assessments in these areas, collectively assisting around 100 patients per day as a group.
The localised knowledge from working with local health professionals, combined with the students’ own studies and experiences of nursing and healthcare in their home countries, will contribute to the creation and delivery of health education workshops for local schools and community groups.
