At a glance:
This physiotherapy placement in Thailand invites students to directly examine health cases related to physiotherapy studies at a government rehabilitation center in Bangkok. The physiotherapy treatment delivered will be based on a ‘buddy’ program where students will work in close collaboration with local staff and under close supervision, enabling the students to benefit from local expertise. Discussions with the practitioners and local health officers in the rehabilitation centre during your placement shall deepen your understanding in the Thai health system.
Communities and Project Impact:
The physiotherapy placements will take place across a number of different rehabilitation, special needs and homeless shelters located in Bangkok. Students will be mentored by local staff during each placement, to ensure that the host and students get the most out of the placement.
This program is of great importance to the local communities as it allows for an increase in physiotherapy sessions which would not otherwise be possible due to a lack of staff and funding. The placement facilitates the creation and continuation of individual care plans, improving the recovery and rehabilitation of service users. The skills and knowledge exchange between the visiting students and local staff also promotes informal and formal learning and training opportunities locally, which improves internal best practice and the long term success of the therapies provided.
