At a Glance:

Understand and connect to Vietnamese cultural heritage, a country that was once divided and then united in 1975. Learn how two very different political systems reunited and were integrated into the diverse society of Vietnam today.

This program will let you participate in homestay programs, peer learning experiences, and also take field trips to key historical and cultural sites in three distinctly different cultural and geographic regions of Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City in the south, Danang and Hue in the central, and Hanoi in the northern part of Vietnam where you will study the institutions, trends and issues of the society of Vietnam.

Learn about Vietnamese culture, language, history, and society
Visit key historical and cultural sites in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hue and Ha Long Bay
Learn about the country’s river system by joining a boat trip along the Saigon River
Understand the challenges of the urban poor by visiting an NGO that works with street children
Understand the culture and business of rice cultivation in Vietnam – the world’s largest exporter of rice by visiting a rice farm in the rural countryside
Learn about society in central Vietnam by taking a bicycle tour of the countryside
