Oral Health Placement in Cambodia
The 2 weeks Oral Health placement is one of GROUND Health Care programs. This program enables a group of Oral Health faculty students to work together with local dentists for free teeth check-ups and mouth hygiene checks. The outreach program works with local NGOs in the dump area in Phnom Penh.
The few days after arrival, the group will explore the city and learn about Khmer culture as well as some basic words of the language for communicating with local kids. The group also will have a chance to visit the Oral Health dental clinic at the public hospital either and at a private clinic to get some experiences about the Oral Health process in Cambodia. Before starting the placement, the group will learn about Child Protection and listen a presentation from the Dental Director of the Dental focused NGO One-2-One Cambodia about Oral Health in Cambodia and the guidelinefor starting the placement.
During the placement the group will only work on level 2 which focuses on restoring cavitated E’s, 6’s and 7’s using ART with Fuji IX and SDF for treatment of non-cavitated carious lesions.
It’s so nice to see the great work the group does for local people and to see everyone from different backgrounds work and interact together.
